We know that music benefits young people and schools, and have worked hard since March to help keep music alive for young people in Cumbria. Over 500 students have signed up for regular live video lessons during lockdown, with thousands more engaging with us online to make music at home.

With children returning to school on 8 March, we are taking music back into school, in line with Government Guidance, and with careful Risk Assessment and Guidelines in place.

The DfE Schools Coronavirus (COVID-19) Operational Guidance (February 2021) says:

You should continue teaching music, dance and drama as part of your school curriculum, especially as it builds pupils’ confidence and supports their wellbeing.
Schools can continue to engage peripatetic teachers during this period, including staff from music education hubs.

We continue to offer online teaching alternatives so that no student needs to miss out.

If you’re missing music in your school, get in touch and find out how we can keep making music together safely.
